- What is a whisky flight board?
- A whisky flight board is a serving board with seated wells that hold a set of drams — usually two to five Glencairn glasses — so a tasting can be carried, presented and shared as one piece. HyggeHoose flights are cut from Scottish and European hardwoods, set in hand-poured resin, and each well is turned to fit a Glencairn glass precisely. Larger designs include a bottle well so the bottle travels with the flight.
- What does a HyggeHoose whisky flight board cost?
- Whisky flight boards start from £200. The portable three-bottle display, The Trio, starts from £1,200. Live-edge serving boards start from £200 and live-edge console tables from £800. Final price depends on the timber, the size and the complexity of the resin pour.
- What timbers and materials do you use?
- Principally Scottish and European hardwoods — yew, oak, walnut, burr elm and spalted maple — much of it reclaimed or storm-fallen. These are paired with deep, food-safe, hand-pigmented resin pours, and finished with hard-wax oil. Brass inlay and hand-cut leather are used on some commissions.
- Is every piece one of a kind?
- Yes. Every HyggeHoose piece is signed, numbered and one-of-one. When a design sells it retires with the buyer, because no two boards of natural timber and hand-poured resin are the same.
— Commissions —
- How do I commission a bespoke piece?
- Send us a note through the contact page describing the piece, the room or the occasion. We reply with timber options, a sketch or reference, a fixed price and a date. Work begins once a 50% deposit is placed, with the balance due on completion.
- How long does a commission take?
- Typically four to eight weeks from approval. Resin cures on its own schedule and cannot be rushed; larger furniture commissions can take longer and we will always give you a date before you commit.
- Do you make corporate, hospitality and gift commissions?
- Yes. We work with hotels, bars, distilleries and independent bottlers on branded flights, bottle displays, presentation boards and awards — including engraved or inlaid house marks. Small runs are welcome, and repeat pieces can be matched in timber and palette.
- Can you work to my own wood or design?
- Often, yes. We regularly work with timber that carries a story — a fallen tree from a family garden, an old cask stave, salvaged beams — provided it is sound and dry enough to stabilise in resin.
— Ordering, Delivery & Care —
- Where are you based, and can I visit?
- The atelier is in East Lothian, on the coast east of Edinburgh, Scotland. Studio visits are by appointment — we are happy to show work in progress and let you handle the timber before choosing.
- Do you ship outside the UK?
- Yes. Pieces ship UK-wide and internationally, crated and insured. Shipping is quoted per piece once the size and destination are known. Local delivery in East Lothian and Edinburgh can be arranged by hand.
- Are the boards food safe?
- Yes. The resin is fully cured and food safe, and the timber is finished with a food-safe hard-wax oil. Serve cheese, charcuterie, canapés and drams directly on the surface.
- How do I care for a wood and resin board?
- Wipe with a damp cloth and dry it. Never put a board in a dishwasher, never soak it, and keep it out of direct sun and off hot surfaces. Re-oil the exposed timber two or three times a year with a food-safe hard-wax oil and it will outlive you.
- Do you offer repairs or refinishing?
- Yes — send us a photograph. We refinish and repair our own pieces for the life of the piece, and can usually help with other makers' boards too.
